Am I consuming too many calories to lose weight?
I am almost 21 years old, 155lbs, and 5'7. I am vegan and been that way long before I decided to lose weight and eat almost exclusively organic food. I make sure to get all the required vitamins and fiber I need daily. I drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. I usually walk anywhere between 3 10 miles daily, depending on my mood and the weather. I also do sit ups and push ups 3 days out of the week. I typically eat around 1700 calories a day, give or take 100, divided between 5 6 meals. Is that too many calories to effectively lose weight?I also have a job doing landscaping, gardening, and lawn maintenance

Am I burning enough Calories to lose weight?
I have been tracking my calorie intake, exercise, and progress on livestrong.com. It says today my net calories is 73. Do I burn 73 calories a day from just doing normal things? Such as walking around, moving, etc. What is a good goal for my net calories? If you don't know what net calories are they are the calories you have left after eating and exercising. Lets say I at 1000 calories, and I burned 950, I would have 50 net calories left.

if you eat this food, you will eat XXX calories making you have to exercise for 17 hours to burn off YY calories, resulting in the grand total of one pound of weight loss.my question is ........ what the frickenfrack is a calorie and how is a food found to have its calorie rating. what is the process that results in the final determination of " 1000 calories for a level tablespoonful of peanut butter." may or may not be a correct determination of caloric value. thank you
